GoGo Left Her Shoe on the
Wall in Front of the Whitney Museum of American Art, 1991, walnut dyed
maple, marble, 17"Hx12"Wx6"D, Collection: Hawaii State
Foundation on Culture and the Arts One day while walking down Madison Avenue in New York City, Craig Nutt found a blue, stiletto-heeled pump - guess where. He spirited it home to Alabama, and proceeded to look for a Cinderella who could wear this diminutive shoe and was willing to model for this shoebox. A lift off lid reveals the compartment in the foot.
"Finding a shoe on that wall brought to mind a scene from Waiting For Godot, where Vladimir (Didi) leaves his uncomfortable shoes at the side of the road, for some other traveler." The shoebox was named for Didi's friend Estragon (Gogo). "It made me wonder how the play would stage with a female cast-maybe in front of the Whitney!" Craig Nutt - Fine Wood Works |
